It seems as if Al Gore has raised the ire of some people vehemently opposed to both Al and the horse he rode in on global warming. Or at least opposed to the idea that global warming exists at all. Which could mean that they're actually for global warming for they would have us do nothing and assume trillions of tons of CO2 released into the atmosphere, fundamentally altering the natural carbon cycle, will have absolutely no effect on climate.
I find curious the claim that a majority of atmospheric scientists think that Al is full of hot air (too easy!). They sure do seem to be real quiet and hard to find most of the time.
Retreating glaciers and collapsing artic ice are just natural consequences, we aren't altering our environment in the least.
The fact is that our propensity to alter the environment is not new (any high school student should know that, but probably doesn't), nor is our short-sightedness in dealing with it.
We can argue about the outcome, but it is indeed disheartening to still have to listen to people argue that there is no way human society is altering the environment, given all the evidence to the contrary.
I don't want to take away your guns or your job. It would probably be a great boon for the economy with lots of new jobs anyway. And just because I want to do something about global warming doesn't necessarily mean I'm a godless, lily-livered, pinko communist liberal. (Only one of those terms actually applies - let the reader imagine which one.)
The times, they are a-changin', and the sooner we see beyond petty political bickering, the better off your children will be.
And give Al a break. Maybe he actually does know more than you.
