Starting grid approach of airliner departure reduces carbon emmisions

Sir Richard Branson, CEO of Virgin Atlantic Airlines, has proposed new methods of ground operations and other innovative ideas to help curb aviation's impact on climate change. Using a "starting grid" system of flight departure, the amount of time an airplane's engines idle on the ground is decreased thus significantly reducing carbon emmisions.

Branson's ideas are a good example of ways that major industry can rethink ways of doing business to help make effective - and in most cases cost saving - changes right now to address global warming.
